The Hopewell Valley Youth Chorale, Inc. seeks to provide boys and girls in the greater Hopewell area an opportunity to explore, prepare and perform a diverse repertoire of choral music. Through regular participation in this community-based ensemble, children will develop:
- musical skills through ear training, sight-singing and rhythmic activities;
- age appropriate vocal technique;
- artistic and personal expression through the performance of great choral literature;
- self discipline and social skills;
- commitment to serve others through the gift of song;
- cultural awareness of the role that music plays in the local community and beyond.
The HVYC Philosophy
The founders of the Hopewell Valley Youth Chorale believe that all children possess a natural enthusiasm for music-making which should be nurtured from an early age. Every child has musical potential which is best developed in a positive group environment. The choral rehearsal provides such an environment. In that setting, children are exposed to fine choral literature and learn to set high standards for themselves. Children also discover the benefit of artistic risk-taking within a supportive organization. The culminating experience becomes the sharing of their artistry with others and the discovery that their singing can change the world around them.
The Hopewell Valley Youth Chorale is comprised of two choirs for boys and girls entering grades three – five (Preparatory Choir) and grades six – nine (Concert Choir). The choirs rehearse on Tuesday evenings at The Pennington School. For more information about the HVYC Choirs, click here.
Performances are held in January and June. Additional performances will be offered in nursing homes, hospitals, and other area service organizations. For more information on our performances, click here.
Funding for the organization comes from tuition, donations, and receipts at concerts in January and June. A goal of the organization is to raise money for local charities, thereby fulfilling the vision “Bringing Hope through Song.”
